I noticed there’s almost no debate in the blogosphere around private label rights articles, so I decided to start a 3-part series on the topic, and share with you my insights on this as it should be the core basis of every blogger’s business.
Today we cover the 3 warning signs you should be aware of before buying or using private label rights articles…
First of all, if you don’t know by now, private label rights articles are articles that you can label “as your own”.
A PLR article is ideal for bloggers who don’t have the time to write content from scratch and want to unlock their creativity, fast.
Just modify the content to make it look different than its original, then run with it. The posibilities are endless.
Secondly, you can buy these PLR articles from dedicated sites or you can search the web for free PLR packs. That’s not what counts, what really matters for now is the 3 warning signs you need to be aware of.
Whether you buy a package full of private label rights articles, or get it at no cost, it’s important you understand this:
1. Membership site limit
There are loads of dedicated sites selling PLR articles to their members. The thing you need to avoid the most is getting into some major competition. I like sites where they limit the slots to only 100 members or less. There are very little examples in this category, as most sites put a cap on 500+ members, which puts more money in their pocket, but gives you more competitors.
2. Article topics
If your blog is on blogging, it’s logical to search for PLR articles on blogging, and avoid other niche subjects, yet I find most folks make the big mistake in buying pr obtaining non-targeted content. They get all types of articles, in various niche topics, hoping to build “adsense-monetized” cash-machines…
I suggest you stick to your niche and buy PLR stuff on your niche topics only.
3. PLR System
What do you do with a PLR article? Do you copy-paste it on your blog and hope to attract readers like bees to honey? That’s what most bloggers do, and that’s why they’re seeing no results.
Here’s what you can do [just a few practical ideas]
A. Adjust your PLR article and turn it into 100% unique content, then publish it on EzineArticles.com [they won't accept PLR content, but you can use your article for inspiration purpose, and grab ready-made ideas from there, to help you craft better articles]
B. Do you have a Twitter account? Then let your folks read your new article on your blog. Some will re-tweet it, thus brining you even more exposure.
C. Take your article to the next level. Expand it into a mini course by email and give it away to boost your subscriber rate, or even better, compile the information into an eBook and sell it for $10+ as a mini-report.
What is your opinion on this? What was your experience with private label rights articles so far? Share your thoughts with me and my readers. Let’s continue the debate. And don’t forget to stay tuned for the next post in our 3-part series.
Next post talks about…

You promote the standard formulaic process for modifying PLR articles. That’s all well and good, but there is a problem inherent in that process. You have no idea if you are getting the ‘original’ article or the nth generation of it, no idea how many times it may have been modified, no idea of the expertise of folk that created it or might have modified it.
Modification, while reasonably important, must needs be suspect. There are times when changing only a few words can markedly alter the target and intent of the article.
As an example, imagine a PLR bread recipe … very little modification can be accomplished w/o totally changing the result of the recipe, which might not be a good result. Or perhaps you’ve opted for pet care: article alterations could endanger, not help, a pet.
No matter what niche you might occupy, if you don’t have a reasonable expertise in that niche, any PLR article(s) you publish will be suspect – but your client won’t know that! That client might be getting 3rd-class information from what was originally a 1st-class article/tutorial.
And, before you bring it up, a passion for a niche topic does *not* equate to expertise in the niche.
So, there’s a fly in this PLR ointment, and very few of you, if any, focus upon it. Of course not! Otherwise no one would be able to hawk PLR. But you can do a disservice to your clients in this process, and that will become known, sooner or later.

You made a very important point about using PLR for “inspiration”. If you just copy and paste it unchanged, it’s duplicate copy to Google. If instead you can rephrase the article in your own words and hopefully add some new infor
ation, then you have a new article. You can post it own your blog and submit it to article directories like EzineArticles.

it’s not really duplicate. What duplicate means in Google’s eye is to use the same article, with nothing else around it [like for e.g. banners, or other content] on several other domain names you own.
You can use the same article both on your blog, and submit it to EzineArticles, if it’s your original content. And Google won’t count it as duplicate, as the other part of your blog/EzineArticles.com content is not duplicate…
With PLR stuff, you have to make each article unique, your own, prior submitting it to EZA

It is evenposssible to produce five or more unique articles from one private label article, by using article spinning software.
Just do not try to have it 100% automated. I read each article loud, before posting it, to find mistakes in grammer and language.
Some software has also features to look for plagiarism. This way you can check whether the original article is posted at every corner, and also make sure that search engines and article directories do not see your stuff as duplicate content.
After I have done these checks, I load the articles to several article direcories, and after they are approved, I post the links through twitter

I dislike using article spinning software and do not recommend them for the sole reason that it's pie in the sky. I tested even the most "advanced" software tools out there. All generated articles sound like a robot, no matter how good.
If you want original, unique and good content, I suggest manually re-word articles, include synonyms, re-phrase main idea, etc.

I agree you should get PLR content based around your niche and to only join sites with membership limits, however how do you determine what sites limits the memberships?
To many times I have went to sites that boasted only 100 to 500 limit
only to come back months later to see that the site still offers memberships.
But regardless of how many members the site has, I think your imagination and creative can lead you to create unique content even with PLR that has been resold numerous times.
Put your own spin on the articles and make them informative using the PLR as a base only to generate your unique article.Write them in a conversational manner as if you were talking to one or 2 people on a personal level.

I like buying PLR packs from trusted sources. I either know the seller, or heard good things about it. You can’t really check exactly the spots offered by these membership sites, and I suspect some will sell a lot more than their public limit number…
There are very limited number of sites that close the offer as they promise, and won’t let you in, unless someone gets out of the membership. One I recall is Jimmy D. Brown site. He always sells his spots, and adds an “second change” opt-in offer.

I would suggest reading PFR articles quickly just to get a core idea, then using that idea to write your own original copy. It’s the hard, long way but ultimately will lead to creative, original articles.

yes, that’s just one way of getting inspiration. You could even do what I once did to get “instant” inspiration – reading 5-7 article titles and coming up with a killer article title and content core idea… just by skimming through titles alone!

Hi Codrut,
You always come up with good reviews and great information.
Thanks a lot as I have bought several PLR articles and did not do anything about them. Now I can change it up and add content to them.
great Job

But to get ideas and inspirations, I do not need PLR-articles. I can just go to the big article directories, see what is there.
Headlines and content contain Ideas, which can be combined, refined and improved

yes, that’s another way of doing it. But I should add that the articles you’re getting needs to be “insider” information; it should be written by someone in the field, who talks from personal experience or knows the ins and outs of that particular topic.
There are lots of writers who can ghost write and produce PLR stuff on almost any topic, but its quality reflects the non “authority” status of the writer

my thought: Private label rights are perfect for branding yourself and your business … Using high-quality PLR material is a great way to establish you as an expert in your niche market.

I agree that PLRs are the good source of article generation but one has to be wise enough to modify then correctly. Select the niche in which you have expertise then go for the PLR. You can generate great traffic through PLRs.

if you want to make the articles yours [100% original] and don’t plan to just place them on a blog, or other sites, then yes, it’d be wise to grab PLR articles in a niche you know or are interested in.

honestly, spinning plr articles is really important. I tell everyone to do so because you don't want to use the same exact content as someone else and google will rank you better for it.

Got your point. Thanks for the warning, Codrut! Your tips help me so much. “Private Label Rights Articles” helps us to keep the quality of our works. Other people are simply unscrupulous.

I think original articles are still better than the PLR article that you are referring to. It is true that it would be easy for a writer to compose an article using this one, however, what is a writer for? To write articles, right? And if you will just edit the PLR articles, you are an editor then, not a writer.

Buna ziua Codrut ,
the problem with PLR articles is that thousands of people are also spinning them and it is quite difficult to rewrite them without changing the article completely.
A better way to use PLR in my opinion is to take the 3 main points of the article and write an original article from there.
