Why Content Writers are more Important than Cold Callers

Nobody likes being punched in the face (except masochists, perhaps). It is painful, inconvenient and disruptive, just like receiving a cold call, five minutes before an important deadline.

With the continuing growth of the internet, the terrain of sales is rapidly changing to the advantage of those who are doing the selling. People are actively seeking information in their own time online and this is where the use of good content writers on your site (and writing on your behalf on other sites), can pull in and engage an audience who go on to become customers or clients.

Here are five reasons why high quality content writers can bring in more sales for you than a team of cold callers.

1. Psychology:

These days we have the world at our fingertips. Thus, this gives people a higher sense of control over what they do and do not buy. Feeling empowered by this, people want to discover things for themselves rather than being sold to. If you have a consistent level of high quality content online, people can read it in their own time and, if it is well written, will feel engaged and connected with what you are offering. As you have reached them in their comfort zone, they will be more likely to absorb your message than when being bombarded with a cold call during their busy working hours.

2. Outreach potential:

One well written blog post about the benefits of your products/services can reach a larger audience than a team of cold callers working nine to five, Monday to Friday. With platforms such as Twitter and Facebook and simple email forwarding, there are few limits to who you can reach if you put in a bit of time into promoting your content, and writing it so well that people feel compelled to share it.

3. SEO:

A cold caller does not have the numbers of all those who are typing your business’ keyword phrases into Google or other search engines. However, your content writer(s) can reach all of them by posting high quality consistent blogs online that cleverly embed such phrases.

4. Content writers are cheaper, but not cheap:

A good content writer should have a high price tag and be worth every penny. As this article argues, they are revenue generators, not “nice to have’s”. By hiring one effective content writer whose posts people want to forward on to their friends, you can pull in more customers than you could with an entire telesales team.

5.  They can make you money in your sleep:

The internet sleeps not, unlike your sales team. People can read your posts in the middle of the night and you may find when you awake in the morning, you have emails/orders demanding your service or product.

I am not suggesting there is no need to have a telesales team. However, if you use the internet cleverly and understand why content is King, your sales team can focus more on inbound calls rather than outbound.
