|
|

Very much a newbie question I'm afraid, but maybe someone can point me???
Is it better to set up a TLD to house each product's pitch page or can / should I do it using a subdomain of my main site?
I'm thinking consistency and identity here, i.e. any customers of my products would know that they're buying one of "my" products.
Or is that hogwash?
thanks,
m

sorry, TLD = top level domain
must be reading the wrong books that make me pick up bad habits
translation:
should I have a different website / and name for each product I offer,
i.e. product1.com, product2.com
or
does it make more sense to set them up as subdomains of my own website,
i.e. product1.mywebsite.com, product2.mywebsite.com
any suggestions? I'm still rather confused about it all
regards
m

That is, you can use an existing domain as a place to add-on another domain and not have to pay another hosting fee for every new domain you host |
You'll still have to own a domain name (TLD) to add unless you're using the subdomain feature that will look like this > http://subdomainname.yoursite.com. Hosting is another thing...
Macalla, if you're promoting a bunch of products of the same theme, you can use subdomain. Or if you're selling products that are very low cost, using a subdomain is more sustainable. People also use subdomain for forwarding purpose.
Otherwise, always use a brand new domain. It looks professional and will eventually results in higher conversion rate.

Ah..ha!! Consistency and Identity is extremely important for long term success. That's where BRANDING come into play. But don't you think it's better to brand yourself (your name) than your website?
Meaning that, it doesn't matter what domain name that you're using, but your prospect will recognize you through your signature at the bottom of your every product! Brand yourself macalla.

much food for thought here,
thanks guys
I think I keep my personal site for playing and trying out and create a new content site for the products I want to promote.
Just realised (doh!) that I've already got a perfectly good product to practise all this with ... so please check out my first attempt at a sig!
Rather blatant, but I think it does what it says on the tin...
many thanks

yes, brand yourself first.
only get separate domain names if your products are niche
different.
good luck!
P.S. tweak your SIG, it needs better words, compelling
copy - give people a real reason to CLICK on it.
Would you click on it yourself? WHY?

I agree with Codrut, brand yourself first.
BUT (and that's a careful BUT), if you are cloaking your affiliate ID or TLD or sub domain, then the question becomes somewhat mute, mainly because with the actual URL buried in the cloaked URL, your reader/customer usually doesn't notice where he or she has been sent. And if your URL is hidden by anchor text (as is the case with most of these sig files), then it almost goes away.
But you do raise an interesting question, and I hope I haven't confused you too much.

|

Hmm... your link directs to an Amazon book.
Well, people are more aware of Amazon than are of ClickBank, so they
might try to still your commissions if they're affiliated with Amazon.
If not, then you'll get credit - only if they buy.
However, Amazon only offers a tiny commission.
Compare this with $10 or even $50 that CB pays when you do a sale.
Stick with digital products - profits are larger.
Btw, nice sig file, take a look at mine and make sure you tweak yours
based on your competitors sig files, and on the sales page of your affiliate
product (benefits/features)

I entirely agree that amazon pays only peanuts in their affiliate program, especially now as they are charging a 15$ fee for each check they have to send out and (fee-free) instant bank transfer does not apply to non-US accounts.
But the book is my own, so I thought that while I'm learning the ropes with all you guys I can use it as my 'exercise piece' to practise on. And give it some exposure at the same time.
I also dig the point about cloaking my own site address, but I need to give this some more thought.
Not boring.
cheers
