Believe it or not, welcome emails generate 4x more opens and 5x more clicks than regular email marketing campaigns (newsletters or promos).

That’s the main reason why you should spend the most of your time on the welcome email.

Hack #1 – From: field
If you want to be known as Sean from SEO hacker, it’s OK to go with this, otherwise be sure to use your full name (build your personal brand first) followed by your business brand.
Hack #2 – Subject line
I suggest email personalization in the email subject line. Here’s why

Hack #3 – Email body: HTML
I suggest to split test A/B with two different versions. Text gets more opens. Here’s why:

Hack #4 – Intro Message
Intros can make or break your email marketing success.
Add some “intro” excitement. And always brand yourself first.

Hack #5 – Call to Action
The call 2 action can make or break your clicks conversion. Do it right.
It looks like Sean is having 4 distinct call to actions in this email alone — this is something which I DO NOT RECOMMEND as it’ll decrease your conversions! Only focus on ONE CALL 2 ACTION!
Anyway, here’s how I’d re-write this… and still make it effective…
#1 – Want to TALK or need SEO HELP? E-mail me @ ___ or HIT “reply”.
#2 – Are you on Twitter? Let’s connect right away. Here’s where you can follow me ___
#3 – Are you in Metro Manila? Contact me as I love meeting fellow digital marketers and entrepreneurs.
Hack #6 – the P.S.
The first P.S. is not needed as most users will know how to ‘whitelist’ their email anyway.
The P.P.S. — I’d make this enticing and give readers a special 10% discount or whatever. Show them you appreciate their subscription.
I’d re-write it to be more specific like this…
