If you’re confused about niche marketing and don’t know where to start follow these 3 quick steps. I promise you’ll find your niche.
Before we dive in I have to warn you about two niche marketing mistakes 90% of the newbies out there fall into.
Niche Marketing Mistake #1
Select the niche others suggest them to embrace
I’ve read countless books and tested close to a hundred info products on niche marketing and all come to one conclusion – select a market you’re passionate about.
That’s why you should never embrace a niche you don’t like just because others claim there’s money to be made in that particular industry.
Niche Marketing Mistake #2
Select a niche with few competitors
That’s BS advice! No offense, but if I were in a niche where I would not be able to team up with others and do joint ventures, ad swaps, cross-promos, guest blog posting, barters and other forms of associations, my business would die sooner than you’d think.
Want to find your Internet niche market? Take these steps now before it is too late:
Step #1
What is your hobby?
What is it that you’d enjoy doing for the next 3, 6 and even 12 months even if you weren’t get paid to do it?
That’s your niche! With a little research on Amazon.com [e.g. in the books and magazines section], you’d find that even the most obscure niches are lucrative, whether you believe it or not at the moment!
Step #2
What is your skill?
If you don’t have a hobby, you need to have a particular skill or talent, technical, creative or whatever.
Do you like writing? Do you do graphic design? Do you enjoy playing tennis? Do you know how to trade Forex?
Whatever is it that you enjoy, you’d be considered an expert if you start teaching others to achieve similar results as you did. No need for a diploma, or degree, unless you’re planning to get in the law or accounting niche, which is a real profession!
Step #3
What do you like reading about?
Some of the top experts and consultants out there were self-made. They did not get any school lessons but gather their knowledge from reading books and applying the information.
What is it that you enjoy to read that others would pay with their attention and money to know?
There you have it. 3 quick steps to finding your niche market.

Thanks for this information Codrut
Very useful article.
Codrut, once again you have hit the nail right on the head your honest and common sense approach to IM makes you stand out head and shoulders above the so called Gurus…i would recommend any product or service you are promoting. And Yes people need to pursue their passions if they want to make it on-line…
I'd not go that far and recommend people buy any product or service I recommend just because I do it… and regarding your comment, I edited its link [removed actually] as there's no self-promo allowed here, other than the link in the comment field
sorry!
Very helpful post, Codrut.
You made some good points in this brief post. In my opinion, the one about choosing a niche that you're passionate about is especially noteworthy.
After all, if you're not passionate about it, then you won't make the effort for it to be as good as it should be, which would be a dis-service to yourself, your prospects and your customers.
Thanks for a good article.
It is actually quite interesting that I have written something similar in Danish. In August 2009 I offered people 23 niche ideas to help them be inspired to begin earning money online by becoming inspired from my list indicating everything is "nichable".
I gave them an overview on September 1st after releasing all 23 niche ideas during the month of August as can be seen right here: http://www.blunck.dk/tjenfritid/2009/08/.
I fully concur about your mentioning people should never try to conquer any niche if they lack passion. That has also been my experience. When I have seen people lose interest in a niche it's usually because they weren't really interested in the subject to begin with.
I actually wrote "How to Cure a Dying Blog" yesterday to bring three ideas to revitalize their blogs, and point no. 1 was to get guest bloggers.
To cut a long story short, getting partners with similar interests is ESSENTIAL to maintain your motivation and will actually bring you increased earnings since you both benefit from mutual linking combined with learning new things when others contribute to your development of your niche.
Keep up the good articles. I really enjoy following your blog.
Wow, that's eye opening Codrut! More competition = more profits vs what I have been hearing for years to find something of low competition.
Thanks!

Hey Codrut,
You probably don't know me, but I remember reading your stuff WAY back when I was just getting started. I was always impressed by your dedication and smart articles.
I like this one as well, of course. I always teach people who I work with to go after what they are passionate about. It's not about finding something to get rich. It's about doing what you love.
That's where our hearts need to be. I wrote a post that I think some people here might link. It's about the affiliate business model
Thanks!
Mike Antoni
