SEO Keyword Research Tool: Google Keyword Research Tool vs Traffic Travis vs SEMRush Review
Are you looking for the best SEO keyword research tool to help you find profitable keywords, competitor keywords, niche keywords and long tail keywords?
I am a long tail keyword research addict. I like to uncover low competition, hidden keywords and dominate the search engines. But it’s not that EASY, unless you know how to do it and have access to the proper keyword research software intelligence.
In my quest to finding the best SEO keyword research tool I wanted to compare Google Keyword Research Tool (I am sure you’re quite familiar with), Traffic Travis and SEMRush.
For this example, I am mainly looking to find the most keywords that fit the category below:
- find profitable keywords
- finding competitors keywords
- finding niche keywords
- find long tail keywords
- long tail keyword research
Profitable-niche-long-tail keywords are hot. They have high buying potential if you know what to look for.
We’re looking for: “keyword research”. Let’s inspect the results
Google Keyword Research Tool limits their keywords count at 100 so what they provide us is nothing more than 100 keywords (we cannot really go far with it)
Traffic Travis software tool has a “Keyword Finder” option so let’s see how many keywords it finds for us… I checked this with their PRO version (so I am not limited in anyway)
And found 143 keywords! That’s an additional 43 keywords so far.
Now, let’s see what SEMRush finds… 184 keywords.

We now have 84 more keywords than Google and 41 more than Traffic Travis. Now, what about the quality of the keyword results?
In my opinion, SEMRush is the most advanced SEO keyword research tool I have tested so far (even compared with Keyword Elite) In fact, it is a web-service application, what I like the most about it. So it doesn’t run from your computer, but anywhere you have Internet access to.
Their intelligence software searches through a database of 80mil+ keywords and 40mil+ domains. And you can tap into this information with just a few mouse clicks!
SEMRush Review

SEMRush is a seo keyword research tool web-based application created by SeoQuake Team company who started in the SEM back in late 90-ies. They are mostly known for the Firefox add-on SEO Quake (more than 1mil installs)
Who wouldn’t fell safe with a company of up to 20 years of search engine marketing experience and millions of customers, right?
If you’re looking to find profitable keywords for your affiliate/Internet marketing projects, then SEMRush might be the right tool. Just read further to discover the full benefits of this service and how they can make a difference in your traffic and overall income.
SEMRush
- Product Overview -
I went with the free plan first. But got limited to only 10 results and I was upset. So I went to the next level: upgraded to PRO version for $59.95 as a 30-day testing, and I was more than impressed. Come on, I pay more than $60 in gas and my car doesn’t make me money, shouldn’t I invest into my business to make more money?
To me anything under $100 is worth trying, no head aches; if you don’t like it, ask for your money-back, big deal!
If you prefer software applications and like to be dependant on your computer 24/7, then this service might not be for you. Personally, I prefer to have access to anything regardless my laptop. That’s why nowadays I’m looking for remote applications and solutions for almost all the programs I run on my computer. Including email, software products and desktop applications…
SEMRush
- Best Feature -
I like their keyword research option because it finds hundreds and thousands of hidden key words and key phrases you would have not been able to uncover elsewhere. Moreover, you can find the searching trends for that particular keyword, and other relevant terms or phrases.
This way you know for sure if your keyword is on the ascending trend (e.g. a growing number of people are searching for) or the opposite and not worth to focus on.
Long-tail keyword research: this is what interests me the most as I prefer to focus on what people search for and give it to them, while keeping competitors down my back. (my buying keyword list is testament to that)
I feel that proper keyword research is an overlooked marketing strategy and too many people do it the wrong way or completely neglect it.
Super affiliates know the power of long-tail keyword research and cannot sleep until they find what people want to learn or buy, and create their content around those needs. My super affiliate marketing blog does that, and more.
SEMRush
- What I Like the Most -
Their user interface: newbie-intuitive, simple, fresh, clean, smooth. What else can you ask for?
Whenever you type in a key term, the search box automatically gives relevant keyword ideas, so you will never hit “keyword searching block”!
If you’re interested in Google organic keyword research for your (affiliate) marketing projects, then start using SEMRush. It could be the best decision you have made this month for your business!
SEMRush
- Other Features -
Organic keyword research is just one of the options you’ll find inside. It’s my favorite as I don’t spend money on PPC yet. If you play with AdWords, then you will find their AdWords keyword research feature on hand, extensive and comprehensive.
Anything you wanted to find about your competitors and their ads (positioning and keywords spending) but couldn’t find is revealed right in front of you… 2 clicks of a mouse!
If you want to learn what super affiliates and pro bloggers in your niche are selling or promoting, then this option will give you plenty of ideas and direct access to their PPC keywords, ads, links, costs and rankings. Competitive intelligence at its best!
A notable option is the “traffic buyers” and “traffic sellers” option findings, where you get to find who buys traffic (sponsors) and who sells it (advertisers). Make deals, generate more money, and move on.
SEMRush
- Pricing & Money-Back Guarantee -
I have noticed 4 membership levels (since you get access to a web-based application and customer support – this is NOT a software tool!)
Enterprise recurring ($499 per month)
Guru recurring ($120 per month)
PRO recurring – most popular ($49.95 per month)
PRO ($59 per month or $249 for 6 months)
At PRO level, you’re starting with access to 3,000 requests a day and 10,000 results per report, and it grows with the next level.
You get access to databases for USA, UK, German, Russian, French, Spanish, Italian (Beta), Brazilian (Beta), and Australian (Beta) results.
If you’re looking to dominate local markets and countries, you’re ready to go.
Best part: you’re fully protected by their 7-day money-back guarantee. Try the free version.
If you like it, then go with the PRO (one time, or monthly recurring). Test their application and try the features that interest you the most; if within 7 days you don’t feel like it’s worth the investment, cancel and get your money-back, no problems with me, no problems with them!
To paraphrase Henry Ford, I’d say…
“Whether you think SEMRush is for you, or not. You’re right”
SEMRush
- What I Do Not Like (Or Wish Improved) -
I am not an AdWords buyer although I always find exciting to know what others buy or sell via Google. This option enables me to feel the pulse of the market I target and adapt my content and my offers to the organic search results (and people) I aim for.
I wish they’d increase their price. I am serious. I think their prices are very low compared with the amazing benefits and traffic potential their intelligence data can bring to your business.
If you spend $60 or more on gas, or whatever, as I do, then wouldn’t be smart to invest in your future? To me, anyone who has read this review today and is still on the fence is not quite determined to make money online. I hope you are.

It’s funny you recommend that, as I just tried it this morning! The first thing that attracted me was the simple user interface. You are right on that. It makes me want to try it…
I didn't know that SEMRush is an advanced keyword tool. I thought it is just like one of those not-to-serious keyword tools. But now I think I must take this tool seriously especially when you said that the SeoQuake Team created it. The Firefox add-on SEO Quake is quite famous and useful.
I’ll try this tool again for sure. Based on the keywords results it gave you, I think it is better than the other tools…

Mouh, you know what? I thought the same too, I guess that's because of their simple dashboard. And customer support is fast. You don't even have to type in your email or name, just select the support category, type in your question/inquiry, and press "send"
I'm looking forward to your testing and SEMRush review.

I thought you were going to compare traffic Travis and adwords. This is just on big sales push for semrush. The thing you hate most is that they aren't expensive? Wtf kind of complaint is that. Unsubbing

Ah, I am sorry not to meeting your expectations.

Although I use other keyword research tools, I check some sites on SEM Rush. I hate that they provide me with just 10 results. I never really thought that I might use it as a good tool for internet marketing thus I always skipped the upgrade version. However, after reading this I guess you made me change my mind.
Thanks… And Yes, It’s smarter to invest those $60 in you future…

I’ve been using only three tools in my keyword research- SEMrush, Adwords, and Market Samurai. I could try to learn and use more, but I don’t see the point in it.

When I compare the organic traffic reported by SEMrush with the organic traffice reported by Google Analytics for a certain website of one of my customers I see a huge difference (SEMrush reports just 7 visits, GA reports 300 visits). Didn’t find out why yet.
